Growing into Retirement

Many retirement clients arrive feeling burned out—physically, mentally, and emotionally drained—hoping retirement will offer relief and renewal. A recent coaching webinar by Claire Williams highlighted how burnout and emerging growth can present similarly, with symptoms like exhaustion, overextended and inefficiency. Some retirees may be burned out, while others may have simply outgrown their roles or both.

What contributed to burnout?

What patterns might follow into and impact retirement?

What else might be happening besides burnout?

Burned-out retirees often experience a physiological and emotional let down as stress hormones drop, which can bring unresolved issues to the surface. Initially, these individuals may benefit from restoration plans and reflection to prevent recurring burnout in retirement.

Those who have outgrown their roles might be ready for deeper personal development—redefining success, challenging norms, and expanding their worldview. Once free of workplace constraints, they are ready to discover and reconnect with parts of themself that had been put on hold.

In both cases, retirement coaching offers a supportive, compassionate space to reflect, heal, and create a personalized path forward with clarity and purpose.
